The Policeman in my Head!

Here we have a video clip of Paul performing his poem "The Policeman in my Head!" at the "Dead Good Poets" night at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool on June 2006. After Paul won the December 2006 first online Slam Idol video Podcast with this poem, Simon Toon, the guy who runs Slam Idol, sent Nat Clare a list of questions to ask Paul and if you click here you can hear the interview.
The clip above is a small one (2mb or so) and is a link from Youtube
Click HERE to watch a higher definition SWF video performance of the poem which is 6Mb and may take a few more minutes to load
Click HERE to hear an MP3 version of the same performance of the poem which is 1.6Mb and should load relatively quickly
The
Policeman in my Head!![]()
There’s a policeman in my head
And he’s driving me insane
Whenever I do wrong
He gives me so much pain
I yell at him to stop
But I know he’ll never cease
On his beat relentlessly
Until I am diseased
There’s a copper in my conk
And I know he’s fucking me
He censors everything I think
Why won’t he let me be?
He hurts me for my actions
No matter what I do
Making me feel bad and low
Twisting tight the screw
There’s a Busy in my bonce
How did he get in there?
Someone must have put him in
When I wasn’t quite aware
And I want to rip him out
I’m aching to be free
To ride and buck with chaos
Mayhem and anarchy
I want to be atrocious
To gob and belch and thrutch
Tell everyone to kiss my arse
And then kick them in the crutch
To have sex with a hamster
In front of my old mum
Interfere with pensioners
Debag a bleeding nun
To run with leathered bikers
With a filthy tart from France
To squander money senselessly
In worthless games of chance
Tell my boss that he’s a tosser
Then jack in my bloody job
Shout, “Everybody, look at me
I’ve got a toaster on my knob!”
But there’s a policeman in my head
He regulates my thought
With his holy, unctious sensible
He makes me feel like snot
But now I’ve got a sneaky plan
And it really is quite clever
I’m having a lobotomy
To be free of him forever!
